The US Air Force has rescinded the promotions of 135 security forces personnel due to a scoring error in a critical knowledge test. The mix-up was attributed to the use of an outdated scoring key for the Security Forces Specialty Knowledge Test (SKT), which led to inaccurate scores being awarded to these candidates, who were initially promoted to the rank of technical sergeant.
Upon discovering the error, the Air Force undertook a comprehensive rescoring of all 2,285 exam papers to identify the correct candidates for promotion. The review process revealed the actual qualifiers, resulting in the withdrawal of the 135 incorrect promotions. Despite the revisions, the total number of available promotions remains unchanged at 586.
Air Force officials have characterized the incident as a singular case of human error, emphasizing that no artificial intelligence tools were involved in the scoring process. Leadership has assured that affected personnel have been duly informed of the changes and are being offered support to address any concerns arising from the situation.
